Locations

Attached are photos taken professionally of the locations we are using in our music video. As of yet we only have one photo of each but we plan to take more pictures of our own and use them. We are going to take the pictures at different times in the day to decide when we want to use each location.

27/10/14- Meeting

As we are not in next week because of half term we have decided to take more photos of our locations and hopefully start filming when we get all the actors/props and locations together. We are going to meet on various days to start this process.
We are also borrowing a camera from Mr Liddell for the week.

Second meeting

Today we had our second meeting in lesson, we looked back on last week and seen that we have nearly finished our storyboard, this will need completing though. We also decided our song choice and each individuals roles.
This week we are going to start taking pictures of our chosen locations at different times of the day and using different camera angles to decide when we are going to film and where is the best location for each scene.

Song choice

Our group have chosen Disclosure ft Sam Smith- Latch as our song choice for the music video. We picked the song because we all like it and we can portray a good story from it.

First meeting

Today as a group we created the logo for our group and chose the name. In the next lesson we plan to pick what song we are going to use in our video, this is being chosen by everyone in the group. Hopefully once we've done this we can make a start on our storyboard so we get closer to start draft filming.

Logo

Our group name is 'KKRL' we have chosen this name as it's the first letter of each of our first names put together. As well as this we have created a logo for our group, as seen below.

Group meetings

We are going to all meet up Monday mornings to re cap on what we did the previous week and how we are going to progress that in the upcoming week. All of us have agreed this is the best time as we are all free from other lessons as well. We are hoping these meetings will only last about 30 minutes as we do all know what we need to do.

Deciding our roles

Today we decided what each person is going to do within the group whilst we are making this music video.
Lucy- Costumes, set and actor
Kirstie- Director and actor
Rhyce- Camera man and actor
Kayleigh- Editor (post production), main actor

All of us each have individual roles but together we are all going to part take in the acting role at some point throughout the video, we have decided our roles based on what we all feeling comfortable doing and what we work best at.

Coursework brief

We have agreed what brief we want to do as a group; the music video. This is the best one we thought for our group as we enough resources to succeed in this, we all have individual qualities as well that when put together make a good group for this task.

Our groups

We have set up our own groups and my group members are Kirstie, Rhyce and Kayleigh. I believe with this group I can work towards my full potential and can get the most out of this task.

Promotion package for new film

I think this task of making a trailer, website homepage and poster is the best one out of the three for our group. There are precise elements and technical skills needed to create these and as a group I believe we have these. We all have experience in software's such as Photoshop and iMovie, both we would use for this task.
Following are film trailers I have looked at and believe we can re create certain scenes if not all of them.

Oculus-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYJrxezWLUk
This is a horror film based on a mirror that kills people. The majority of the scenes in this trailer are in a room with the mirror and lots of cameras, this we can do. We can re create most of the scenes in this if not all of this because of the basic camera angles they've used to make it look like the actor is filming most of it. The close camera shots and angles give the viewer the impression they are there with the actors and make the scenes exciting and tempting. There also isn't many actors in this trailer which is an advantage for us as we are limited to the amount of people we have.

The fault in our stars-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ItBvH5J6ss
This is a romance film based on two teenagers who both have cancer and have had cancer. The main reason I chose this trailer is because the majority of it is just them two together that we can do, I have to say myself that some of the scenes are going to be very hard to re create and time consuming but I like the range of different locations as it keeps the viewer interested but we don't have to use all the scenes. Most of the camera shots are quite simple and close up to capture the love they share. The trailer also has a voice over of the main actor, this we can do in iMovie adding professionalism to it.

Lucy-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Vu081NOorA
This is the final film trailer I've chosen and its an action film about a woman who gets drugs planted inside it but they leak and eventually she is able to use 100% of her brains capacity. If we did the whole trailer we would need a lot of actors but we can quite easily re create most of the scenes on the cameras provided for us and using the software we have access to as well we can really make this look professional. They use a variety of different locations in this trailer, different countries as well which obviously we couldn't do but we can attempt to re create them as well as using effects and sounds. The whole trailer I found put me in suspense and that's what I'd like our trailer to do the audience, so they don't forget it.

Promotion package for an album release

I believe this is one task that our group could really achieve well on and finish it within the time scale we have. One advantage of doing this brief is that all of us in the group know now how to use Photoshop considering we used it to create our magazines in AS Media, so we can all help each other create an advertisement poster for our album release, this is one area we would not struggle with.
On the other hand creating the actual music promo video could be difficult as not all of us have extensive knowledge in filming or editing apart from our A2 pre lim task. Putting this aside I still believe we can learn quickly and as well using a professional camera, smart phones can also capture amazing shots that can be used in the video and advertisement purposes.
I like this task particularly as all things considering we can complete within the time frame as well it looking professional and well rehearsed.
Attached are a few music videos I think we could re create in a way easily and use as our promo video.

#Selfie- The Chainsmokers

Rude- MAGIC!

Stay with me- Sam Smith
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB-5XG-DbAA

The first video I chose the majority of it is either in a club or a bathroom, which is easily replicable as we can re create a club like look. These are easy locations so we wouldn't need to spend a lot of time figuring out where to film, giving us more time for more important things like editing and sound. They use basic camera angles and shots that we can easily do as well on the cameras provided. A disadvantage we could have if we used this video is the lack of people we would have to use in the video, The Chainsmokers have hundreds of people to re create the 'club look', unfortunately we wouldn't be able to get this many people so it might not look as effective. Another disadvantage is the lighting, we wouldn't have strobe lighting etc like they have in this video so again it has the potential to not look as good.

I chose the second video as again the locations are easy, in a room (garage) and outside a house. The quality of this video isn't as good so we can use our phone cameras for some shots, to give off the same home video feel. As they've got a story running through the whole video this is captivating for the viewer and they watch the whole thing, luckily for us this is something that is easy to repeat. Unlike the first video this one doesn't use as many people but still more than our group size so we would have to ask others to join in which is do able but more time consuming.

Lastly, the video I chose was Stay with me by Sam Smith which is mainly just him walking down a road, again very easy to repeat and we would only need a few actors that we could get from our own group unlike the other two videos were we would have to recruit others. The basic camera angles in this video is good for us because we can repeat them and still make it look professional. They use simple daylight lightning which again is good for us, we don't need to pay as close attention to this unlike the first video.

Editing the trailer

To edit the trailer we used iMovie. Using this allowed us to add effects onto the scenes which was an advantage in most cases as it made the trailer look more professional. We edited the volume on some clips to add music into the scene which made the interesting parts gripping for the audience. We also used transitions in between most scenes making it again look more professional.

Filming our trailer

Due to this only being a pre lim task we were limited in our location choices and were only allowed to film within school premises, because of this we only had corridors, car park and a classroom in our trailer. One of our scenes was supposed to be in an office, as we couldn't re create this we had to use a corridor that had tables and chairs for us to use. To make this trailer look as professional as possible we used different camera angles and shots to make the scenes look more effective. The main prop we had to use was a gun, obviously we couldn't actually use a real gun so had to use an orange bb gun instead which wasn't as effective but because of our low budget and time scale this was all we had.

Computer/video game

This is the brief I thought would be the most difficult to re create as it an animation. We are able to make animation but this would be more time consuming and more difficult to make so therefore we may not finish it in time for the deadline.
This aside I have still chosen some examples that we could make if we did end up choosing to make a new video game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xK-h4M4Aetg
Crash Bandicoot
This game is set on an island in the south of Australia, the main theme is an animal called 'Crash' who is disturbed on his island by Doctor Neo Cortex. In most of these games Crash must defeat Doctor Neo and ruin his plans for world domination.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3e6qNP6sCY
Fifa 15
This is a football simulation game developed by EA Sports. This can be played on Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo, IOS and Windows. As this game has lots of players, teams and different choices the player can make I don't have the resources to re create this game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjROV3rebfE
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2
This is a first person shooter video game made by Treyarch. This game involves shooting other players, moving countries to catch people and buying new guns etc. This is a little bit too complex for the resources I have so therefore I wouldn't be able to recreate this.

As this is media coursework our group would also have to focus on the media side of creating a game and create not only an interesting and visually exciting game but also a cover and advertisements for the game. Due to the lack of resources we have for this type of task I don't believe it would work in our favour to do this task.

Research into briefs

I have chosen three briefs to research into that are possibilities for my coursework.

1.) The first level of a new computer/video game, together with two of the following three options:

  • the cover for the game's package
  • a magazine advertisement for the game
  • a radio advertisement for the game
2.) A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
  • a website homepage for the band
  • a digipak for the album's release
  • a magazine advertisement for the digipak
3.) A promotion package for a new film, to include a trailer, together with two of the following three options:
  • a website homepage for the film
  • a film magazine front cover, featuring the film
  • a poster for the film
